New Moon

In most of my night photography the primary light source is usually the full moon. Here, though, there is very little moonlight available and instead the light comes from the sun which had set around 2 hours previously. To the naked eye, at the time it was taken, the sky was black - but the 8 second exposure captures the invisible sunlight still available which is also enough to illuminate a little detail in the foreground.

The northerly view here looks out to sea from the Devon coast near Ilfracombe, across the Bristol Channel towards the South Wales coast. The sea can just be seen between the land and the bright red horizontal line just above the horizon.
