The A57 Sheffield to Glossop road is carried across Ladybower Reservoir by the steel and concrete Ashopton Viaduct. Constructed in the 1940s, its arches stand on the ruins of Ashopton village 100 feet under the water.
Looking south-east, the horizon is dominated by Great Tor on Bamford Edge.
